Falling in Love with a Motor Car - 1985

Image
My husband fell in love with her during our honeymoon.  I wasn't a bit jealous.  She was a 1967 Morris Minor 1000 sedan with four doors and the cutest little front grill.  Each day as we walked into the spa town of Bath in the county of Avon, we would pass the Morris Minor Center and admire these adorable little cars.  Avon, according to our neighbors, was a new-fangled county name invented in the 70s and they insisted we lived in Somerset. It was 1985, we were newlyweds and we had a year's sabbatical in England to study film and basically absorb as much culture as we could.  It was to be an adventure.  Before that year, I'd never seen a Morris Minor car, after all I was a small town girl from rural California.  I knew about station wagons, muscle cars, cruising, Chevy Vans, and Pickups.   Money and paper exchanged hands. Enter a new age of motoring - with a sweet little 1967 Morris Minor saloon car we named, « Beauty ».
